About Open Piano Class
Open Piano Class s a award-winning project founded in 2021 by international concert pianist and piano pedagogue Cristina Marton-Argerich together with co-initiator Antonia Miller, dedicated to the support of young pianists around the globe through mentoring, teaching, performing opportunities and more.
Our project: We organize throughout the year all kind of free musical activities based on the idea of an open space for musical interchange and an open invitation for musicians around the world to participate in our projects alongside our piano students. From the beginning of Open Piano Class in 2021, we organized countless concerts, open classes, masterclass lessons and meetings (live and online) and we welcomed over 70 international pianists and musicians from over 25 countries from Europe, USA, Asia, South America, Syria and Bali.
Our history: Established in 2021 during the pandemic, Open Piano Class started as a virtual platform with regular monthly activities and moved on afterwards to a succesful free platform of a constantly growing community of pianists that receive a free masterclass lesson (1-2 external participant per meeting) followed by longterm, valuable mentorship from Cristina Marton-Argerich and numerous performance opportunities that we organize in cooperation with different venues. We offer both live and online activities in order to provide continuos support also to pianists that cannot afford to travel.

Martha Argerich
Born in Romania, Cristina Marton-Argerich is an international pianist, chamber musician and piano pedagogue. Described by the international press as an “excellent soloist” (The Times UK) “with scintillating technique and poetic” (South China Morning Post) and by Martha Argerich as a “magnificent pianist”, her international concert career includes worldwide appearances as a chamber musician and soloist in piano recitals and with well-known conductors and orchestras. Besides of her concert activities she is highly committed and successful in the field of piano pedagogy for many years.
Cristina Marton-Argerich has performed with the Zurich Opera Orchestra, the Orquesta del Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra, the Polish Chamber Orchestra, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and the Orchestra della Radio Svizzera-Italiana under conductors such as Sandor Vegh, James Judd, Dennis Russel Davies, Christoph Poppen and Jörg Färber. She has performed in concert halls such as the Berliner Konzerthaus, Berlin Philharmonie, Munich Herkulessaal, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Stuttgarter Liederhalle, Frankfurter Alte Oper, Mozarteum Salzburg, Zurich Opera House, Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Taipei National Hall, Auditorio Nacional de Madrid, Playhouse Theater Edinburgh, Theatre de la Ville Paris, BAM Theater New York and the Warsaw Philharmonic.
Chamber music plays an important role in the life of pianist Cristina Marton-Argerich. She performs in a wide variety of ensembles, from piano duo to violin and cello duo, piano trio and much more, with an extensive, wide repertoire. Particular highlights in recent years have been several appearances as Martha Argerich’s piano duo partner on international stages in South America, Asia and Europe. EMI Classics and Warner have released recordings of the piano duo Martha Argerich & Cristina Marton live at the Progetto Martha Argerich in Lugano.
Her teachers were Robert Schrodt in Romania, Prof. Arnulf von Arnim in Detmold and Prof. Georg Sava at the “H. Eisler” Hochschule of Music in Berlin. She also took lessons from Christian Zacharias, Leon Fleisher, Dimitry Bashkirov, Stephen Kovacevich, Gyorgy Sebok, Fou T`song, Martha Argerich, Andras Schiff, Radu Lupu and Alfred Brendel. She is a prizewinner of the “Artur Schnabel” competition in Berlin, the “Geza Anda” competition in Zurich, the “Martha Argerich” competition in Buenos Aires, the “Clara Schumann” competition in Düsseldorf and the Salzburg Mozart competition. In the piano duo with Aglaia Bätzner, Cristina Marton won the Murray Dranoff Two Piano Competition, Miami/USA, as well as the chamber music competition in Caltanisseta/Italy.
Since April 2004, Cristina Marton has been working with choreographer Sasha Waltz and her dance company in the successful production “Impromptus” with guest performances worldwide, including in Vienna. in Paris, New York, Moscow, Stockholm, Oslo, Rome, etc.
Cristina Marton leads a piano class at the Singen Jugendmusikschule since 2009 and works as a lecturer for bachelor and master piano students at the Leopold Mozart College of Music of the University of Augsburg since 2014. She is a sought-after jury member at numerous international competitions and gives master classes worldwide. In 2022, she was honored by the Singen-Hegau Cultural Association with the Culture Prize for her artistic work and for her numerous musical projects. In 2023 her platform ˋOpen Piano Classˋ was awarded the PillMayer Foundation’s “Förderpreis für interkulturellen Dialog” and was nominated for the German Engagement Prize.
